From experimenting on the family piano as a kid, moving on to formal teaching, through a stint with celebrated rock band After the Fire, to music director of his local church, Robin has been on a musical journey for many years.
His time as bass guitarist with After the Fire helped to develop his technical expertise, while the “university of life” has honed the pithy wit and insight which are so much a part of his writing today.
Having produced a comprehensive body of original work, Robin spent much of 2004 recording and producing his solo album "Growing Old Disgracefully". Eleven of the 14 tracks are his own compositions. The album showcases Robin's skill as a guitarist and songwriter but also features some exemplary contributions from session guest musicians on keyboards, flute, fiddle, drums and percussion.

One of his current projects is an “Evening with Robin Childs”, a concert format featuring many of his songs and poems, liberally sprinkled with anecdotes and humorous asides commenting on the human condition. His hope is that this will be an evangelistic resource, a non-threatening event to which Christians can confidently invite their interested friends.
